11/14 - Where I like to shop + My christmas gifts to myself Pt 1 (And some of part 2)

Hi everyone!! I usually post hauls and I think in the past I've posted in the past where I shop, but I figured why not detail the most up to date shopping spots!

I'll start with the shopping and then detail my haul below for the first half of my xmas gifts. I usually spend a stupid amount of money on myself every Christmas because I work a really rough Q4 every year. I also gave into the lolita fashion demons so that's like... a lot of my xmas gifts to myself.

Ok, the simple answer might be "mercari JP"", but I think the more important part is how I search on mercari JP. There is of course looking up specific brands, but I've also found some really cool stuff by looking up more basic terms like "pink one piece" or "kyaba dress". Sometimes I use just the categories or sometimes I use just the search terms. Not every piece is labeled w/ a brand, or has a brand name to it. Sometimes I'll even look up gal brands who moved onto jirai because you'll find an older piece for sale and can nab it. So many ways to search!!

I also look for hours. on Hours. On hours. I am a shopping addict because I love to window shop to de-stress. I also create bookmarks to help track items I like and I put them in folders. I used to use tab groups in safari, but I've moved to duckduckgo on my phone and their app doesn't have tab groups like safari does. Then like once every few weeks I flip through my bookmarks to see if I still want to keep the item in mind, or remove it because I don't like it or it sold.

Other site's I've used include

  • In this haul
    • Direct from JP websites. It's not secondhand so I only like to do this with items that I cannot find secondhand. I've done this w. Prisila in this haul. But I've also bought from gyarumy and honeys. Luckily my shopping service Japan Rabbit is so helpful with all that!!
    • Xianyu - which I call chinese depop. I've used this twice before and you REALLY need to translate every seller's caption to ensure they're actually selling it and not renting it or looking to buy it. So much confusion on there... I swear. I use Superbuy for when I wanna buy from there. You also have to be aware there's a chance you will get a replica. Especially if you're going for ma*rs.
  • Not in this haul:
    • Bunjang for korean secondhand goods, it's a pretty smooth process.
    • Directly from korean websites.
    • Taobao for chinese stores
    • I have made one successful depop purchase in my life (thank u cindy).
    • Directly from US gal brands
    • Fril and Yahoo Flea. I rarely look as it seems Mercari JP is the hot spot, but sometimes you find something that wasn't listed on Mercari JP.
I don't actually buy from a lot of western seoondhand stores a lot. Usually because the stuff I'm interested doesn't end up there, or if it does, it's priced up the wazoo and it's still better priced if I buy it overseas pay the crazy shipping and pay the duty fees. Wild. Also because I always have a proxy to deal with sellers for me when I shop overseas... hehe.

My searching skills on the other websites... not as great as Mercari JP. Maybe I need to get like that w/ taobao tbh.

11/14 - Cupcake Forme at a Comic Con

Wow I accidentally published the blog on 11/11 WHOOPS!!!! I finished writing it on 11/14 but no one really reads unless I post on my story lol!

Today is a short little blog while I talk about my first attempt at a lolita coordinate in like....... 11 years !!

So, this past weekend was Rhode Island Comic Con; even though I live very close to it, after 2023, I decided to swear off the con as it was just TOO MUCH!!!!! It's very crowded.
However... my friend Teddy asked if I wanted to come for a day, and I was like sure why not! EJ was originally going to come too as Data, and I was going to be a ... very youthful Picard.  However, EJ could not make it so I was like... no point in being Picard!

I was struggling on what to wear, I own a lot of costumes, but due to the con layout and congestion issues, I didn't really want to wear a costume that would be big, bulky, or uncomfortable.  So that basically took like... all the options I had off the table. I did keep looking at my squirrel party JSK and thinking "should I do an ita-esque lolita coord". And I gave in and decided to.

For some context, about 11 years ago I got my first ever lolita dress, a pink squirrel party OP!! I really never had a chance to give it justice as I was only wearing it at home, and once for halloween. I ended up giving the dress to a friend who wore j-fashion more than I did, but I always ended up regretting it as if I had it now, I'd still wear it.

This past year at some cons I've noticed some booths selling older bodyline JSKs, but not in the colorways I wanted (though... kind of looking for a black one eventually LOL!) I was doing a lot of serarching second hand, and a few weeks ago, I got myself a blue squirrel party JSK! I had to get it all the way from Korea LMFAO!

The true challenge was figuring out how to style it. I actually have an order from a lolita reselling site (Yes I could've done taobao for all the pieces but the middle man aspect was really nice), and I got some shoes, blouse, new petticoat, etc.). The issue is I lumped them all in with some pre-orders, so none of it is coming until probably January!! I also have a blouse coming this thursday... but none in time for the con. I decided if I found a cheap blouse at savers, I'd do an "ita" coordinate. I know that this coordinate really isn't all to like... go crazy about LOL!

Some thoughts on my styling:

  • I didn't realize how much poof a proper petticoat needs. I actually am wearing my 11 year old petticoat from the first time I was wearing my dress and then I ended up using my Vina of the Valley Super Poofy Dress as additional petticoat... like a LOT of Poof.
  • Hate the lower half. I originally was going to use my fleece lined tights but I could not find them to save me.  The shoes were just ones that sooort of worked and I got them at savers. It turns out the pink in this dress is more purple toned than pastel pink so it's like... not perfect... but I think the overpowering blue sooort of helped.
  • I didn't accessorize a lot and relied on my prisilas and make to add a bit more **ooomph** to the look. It worked a little I think, but I would like to play around with more accessories in the future.
  • The blouse was OK for a last minute purchase. I actually bought it at savers because neither blouse I ordered showed up in time LMFAO!!!!
  • Put on nails. Lost half of them. One of them ended up on the sweet lolita I met and they returned it to my later. Bless them... Ya girl will figure out pressons one day.

Make was cute though! I realized I hadn't been tanning and I was like AAGHHHH!!!

Overall the comic con was crowded but I still had fun!! Some highlights were 1) meeting this fellow diva in SUUUCH a cuute coord and we realized our shoes matched!! Their dress was also so cute and I'm like SOOO tempted to find one myself!! We talked a lot abt where we got our stuff and took a cute picture and AGH!!!!! Love fashion divas!!!

Also Day and I found each other and were like ???? and realized it makes sense as we are like... 2 of the 4 RI gyaru to exist to my knowledge. One day the RI gyaru will have a meetup!! But it was so good to run into them!!!!

And then my con group and I found some lunch, sat and ate, and then I tried getting in line to meet Rainn Wilson and there were like 100 people in line so I just went to the mall and karaoke later LOL!!! We also were going to try and meet Don Bluth who we found out cancelled, but it was ok! I think overall it was fun. Maybe if I go for a day again I'd do either Friday or Sunday, Saturdays are just a lot!!

Ok!!!! bye bye!!

11/4 - 30 Days of gal Except I do it all in One Blog Post

Chat. I have forced myself on vocal rest for the next few days while I wait for my humidifier to come in. My throat has been super bad and the cold makes it worse... the air is so dry here... augh... I am trying to hydrate but it's still not the best.

So to calm my yapping tendencies I'm blogging again, and I was trying to catch up w/ blogs and saw Cindy post the Gal Blog Challenge - so I'm going to fill it out now LOL!

I'll link to Cindy's posts so you can check them posts + check out her blog in general (insert nodding emoji)

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

I'm stealing the questions Cindy used word for word 😊because I can. It's gonna be wild typing all these at once LOL

Day 1: When did you start dressing gal

I'll be honest I've been very wishy wash on the true start of my gal journey. Sometimes I say 2023, sometimes I say 2024... if anything 2024 I took it more seriously... but the first time I tried wearing it and documented it was May 27th 2022. I actually went through and took screenshots of most of my 2022 and 2023 looks with timestamps. These I posted on my personal instagram so my friends were very supportive even though they weren't good!

There's not a whole lot, I decided to just go crazier in 2024 and then further in 2025.

Day 2: A pic of yourself & 15 facts

Well, you see my face enough here... so how about just the 15 facts.

  1. If you tell me to do something or don't do something my brain immediately wants to do the opposite.
  2. I love to sing at karaoke!! I have a really powerful alto voice thanks to my Mom :)
  3. I listen to just about anything, but my favorite music includes powerful intense choirs in it. A few examples is Berghain, God Only Knows, and METHOD_METAFALICA/.
  4. I listened to music from the Ar Tonelico series for YEARS before finally getting a PS2 and copies of the games. I still have yet to finish the first game.
  5. I prefer owning physical media vs renting/streaming services. There are some inconveniences with it all, but it does end up saving me money and I own the item forever. I own a VHS and DVD player, a CD player, a PS2, and a Gamecube for my main gaming purposes.
  6. I have a shopping addiction (not a new fact). I love to just get lost on Mercari JP... it's so bad LOL!
  7. I really like the chiikawa series, especially USAGI!!! Usagi is the goat fr.
  8. I try not to code switch but I definitely do when I am meeting people for the first time, the more "new england" or "delaware country" I sound the more comfortable I am.
  9. I work from home most of the time! But when I do rarely go into the office I make an effort to dress in my cute clothes that are work appropriate. It's why I tend to wear my roomwear more.
  10. I have taken up indoor bouldering as a hobby! It's fun, I have like no upper body strength but I've definitely noticed it is helping. This is also why I never really wear nails, I've had a nail brush up against a rock and I was like aUUG UUUGH
  11. Silently learning Japanese. I am good at like sounding out hiragana and most katakana but I'm nowhere near an N5. This is something I do as a hobby while I play the wagotabi app. I try to do it like once a day.
  12. My favorite go to meal is steak and rice or steak and ramen noodles!! I've been trying to replicate a recipe from this place called Wara Wara and I have had 0! 0 luck!
  13. I love to talk. I will never shut up if I can keep going. I do always make sure to tell people to tell me to shut up or to interrupt me if something important is happening.
  14. I LOOOVE long distance driving. I drove to Canada over a span of 2 days and I usually drive like 7-8 hours each way to the DC area like 2-3 times a year. It is fun to drive.
  15. I really enjoy dressing up as male characters once in awhile. I consider myself a woman but there's the whimsy part of like... dressing up like Pitbull... Oppenheimer... Kabu... and ofc they gotta have the circle lenses for sure!!!

Day 3: Best & worst experience with non-gals

Best: Honestly it's like when people who have no idea what I'm doing are like HOLY SHIT YESSS!!! Like the new years eve party last year I had so many people gooped and gagged. Also at my company holiday party it was like.. YEAH!!!

Worst: Men flirting with me aGUUUUUGH. I used to actually not dress up at all because comments from men made me like really uncomfortable but this has grown into a "come on man... can't a lesbian look overly femme this days." It's actually like not suuuuuper common, but security cards really like my vibe I guess????

Surprisingly I don't mind: If people ask if I'm like in lolita... people ask it's a costume... people ask me if my hair is real... these questions are common and it's like well... they don't really know LOL! If I explain it they're chill about it.

Day 4: Pic of a memorable night

Had to recreate an old set of images with a good friend because the old version of these was tainted by lies and deceit 😇Caty took me to trivia and I was like ... girl I know none of these answers this is kind of rude of the trivia host... but we had so much fun HEHE!!!

Day 5: What do you love & hate about gyaru

I love how gyaru fashion was able to help me learn how to enhance myself and be more confident with myself. I've also been able tofind makeup and fashion that flatters me and I feel good in. For a long time I wanted to dress cute but never could get myself to do it in a way I was fully happy with.

Day 6: A pic of something you want to do before you die

This is a weird question. I just want to live life to the fullest.

Day 7: Your fav accessories you own

The prisila wig pieces bayyybeeeeeeeee!!!! I'm so bad at my hair I use them as a crutch LMFAO!

Day 8: A pic of something you wish you were better at

Styling my hair......................................................... why won't my hair hold a curl anymore................................................ I am going to figure out bigger hair this year for SURE.

Day 9: Your wish list

Like true true true ISO?? The chihuahua dress with the fur trim on the bottom from MA*RS. I would even take a replica at this point. I actually got scammed on depop trying to buy it LMFAOOOO. I love the chihuahua print as I used to have a chihuahua (RIP Tony... love you forever bud). And it's cute. The mirror print version is also cute... so that's also an ISO.

There's also an angelic pretty dress (see later questions).

Usually I don't have like an iso list but more of a bookmark list where I'll bookmark items I'm looking for because I don't have a mercari jp account, but also i've learned some mercari JP sellers hate when you like something and don't buy. I'll watch the price of an item go down for months before I decide it's a good time to get it.

I also in general have a lot of items that aren't like dream ISOs but if I see it for sale at a decent price I'd get. I recently bought a C.R.E.A.M dress that I saw in koakuma ageha and I'm like oooo... I want. LOL!

Day 10: A pic of you & the person you've been closest with the longest

Me and Dev :) We've been friends for over 10 years now and we always keep in contact. Dev was there for me during my anime con meltdowns and helped me realize how good life is... love u dev MWAHHHHH SO BEAUTIFUL I MISS U!!!

Day 11: If you could have any dress for free, what would it be

So expensive......................................................... but so cute.................. GRAHHHH!!!! this is why I am not into lolita but honestly gyaru is just as expensive sometimes LMFAOOO.

Day 12: A pic of someone who's made a big impact on your life

EJ AND CATY!!!!!!!!!!!!! EJ is my spooky ooky roomie and bff and Caty and I literally have nothing in common except we go bouldering and we just love to yap... LOVE TO YAP.

I was thinking about it, EJ had shown up in my life like right before the hell of 2024 started and has been like such a supportive person and also just helped me a lot in my self confidence and also willingness to try new things without even asking me to. She's noticed recently she has this effect where she meets people and they're suddenly down to try things they were previously uncomfy with... this includes me for sure.

Caty and I got a lot closer earlier this year after she suggested we try bouldering as a social non drinking activity. And I love to join her for weekend outings once in awhile or to trivia!! She is so fun because anything I do gives her whiplash LMFAOOO we are so different as people but we have fun!!! We talk a lot about things in life and we love to yap... we love yap... yes.... And it is fun when the three of us all come together to do things yes!!!!!

Day 13: Name the best website for gals

mercari jp Instagram has been the best experience. It's not perfect, but better than the others.

Day 14: A pic that makes you laugh

Me in the gyarumy setup lol....... the hoodie being able to zip up is so funny to me. Caty laughed at it hehe!!!

Day 15: What's your gyaru inspiration

I always love early day koakuma ageha, especially Rin. Though my recently inspirations have definitely been more ane agejo and the "sexy agejo" side so that's like... a lot of Shizuka! I also have been very into the korean gal comm's looks, a lot of it is baby metal club but they are really into minimalistic styling. Of course I with the makeup and hair was bigger but the styling of the clothes is very *chefs kiss*

I also love being inspired by mutuals!! Recent inspos have def been Cindy, Dahlia, Chrissi, Leah, and Marley. I also really love how Danni always styles outfits in such unique ways and has been giving me that itch. Also Elin's journey of personal style discovery has inspired me too!!

Day 16: A pic of your typical night

If I am going out, it's either to bingo or to karaoke. I actually haven't been going to bingo recently due to trying to save up for a Mohegan trip in a few weeks, but ah!! I do love Karaoke!! And here's a pic with some of my friends :) I have met so many wonderful people via the karaoke scene here!!!!!

Day 17: Show a pic of every year (or month) that you've been gyaru

I have 2022 and 2023 above, so here's 2024 and 2025!! I so love this pose huh.

Day 18: A pic of your fav memory

EJ put together a surprise birthday party for me at Boombox!!!!!!! She suggested we wearing our matching pink butterly pieces and it was actually a ploy to have EJ be wearing pink without me being suspicious (except I am like the easiest fucking person to plan secrets around LMFAOO!!!! I am so oblivious I take everyone's word). It was really funny because we were walking up and I saw Bobby which was really unusual as he usually works, and I was like "BOBBY!!!" and he RAN back in and I'm like ???? and I walked in and they played happy birthday for me and I cried and like... YAAA!! Even the really nice chef from Warawara came?!?! I was like omfg.... And Caty came and she never goes to karaoke, and then River (not my dog my friend) had come on a Wednesday which was not often and I'm like AAAUUUUUUGH!! We look cute pics and got a cute polaroid that's on the bar fridge!! And I got some pics with Kelly and Bobby too!!!! This was like one of the times I realized I didn't need a gyarusa I have a karaoke group LOL!!!!

Day 19: Share your best tips

  • Spend less time proving you're a gyaru to other people and just follow your wants and work on developing yourself. You could be doing magazine flips or practicing new make styles instead of infighting on reddit.
  • Everyone lives a different experience, lifestyles and fashion styles work different for each person, find what works best for you and don't beat yourself up you're not living the same life as others.
  • Nene you were right a heeled shoe is VERY GOOD... Heels or even just platforms can really help elongate legs and help proportionwise!!
  • Gel liner in the waterline is good, play around with how it looks obviously, but if you aren't wearing lenses it can help.
  • Don't worry about joining a gyarusa... you can find community via online mutuals and build local community outside of gal spaces.
  • You will find gals you don't agree with on things and you can just like not follow them. I don't actually have like anyone I truly truly hate in the gal comm, some I just disagreed with their takes on things and so I removed them from my feed. It's also ok to disagree with mutuals on like fashion takes and stuff too... I do always tend to agree with my mutuals eventually LOL!
  • If your eye doc does a contact lens tutorial session you should do it for real! Even if you don't have a prescription get the tutorial it'll help you a lot. They watch you put the lens in and take it out so you understand the feeling of it.
  • Don't buy items for clout buy them because you actually want them. Did I pay 2300 which was way too much for a coat? Yeah. But I am keeping that coat forever. Also don't just buy items because it's a japanese brand. I've made that mistake before, think about how it'll fit, if the color is what you want, etc.

Day 20: A pic of your most treasured item

My 2024 christmas gift to myself. This shit was so expensive I had to pay import duties... in total... 2300 dollars (like 1700 for coat. 100 to ship,... 500 for import duties) ... this is the most insane purchase I made and I'm taking this motherfucker to the grave.

And you best believe I wear this coat... even when not in a proper code... I'm wearing it!!!! I do want to style more casual codes with these and my darich boots in the winter... yes yes...

Day 21: How did you come across gyaru

Well it started with these two lovely ladies from the phone game I was really into at the time:

It was a couple of things. 1) Take got posted on the gyaru of the day twitter and that was exciting so I was like... ok cool she's a gyaru wtf is that and then 2) I was trying to develop a T7S OC that was also a gal but like. Taki's pink equivalent? (Not in a self ship way more like in a friendly rival way) and I started looking up references and found Agejo and then I was like hm... I should wear these clothes more.

And if it wasn't officially said... Sabina was DEFINITELY a hostess at one point. Yup yup yup. Her eternal beauty is like.. my anime inspo LOL! If Sabina Shima was real she would be my wife. I would make it happen. Sorry Taki. (I am also a shipper of these two... they are married but then they are also married to me if that makes sense. Sabina has two hands...)

Day 22: Take a pic of your wardrobe

This is an older picture but my room is a mess so ... this is all ya get! there's a lot more to it now lol.

Day 23: Are there any gals local to you? If so, where & how many?

As far as I am aware, Nini is the closest as she lives in the same city as me! I also believe there's a few other gals I follow who live in New England but it's like... damn. Where are we guys?!

Day 24: Are you a lifestyle gal?

I want to say yes but also... not fully yet. I have to really work on like my sleep schedule to add in getting ready time because I would love to wear these cute outfits!!!! Auuugh...

I think moreso mindset but like... I need to really do my makeup more often... now that I am back to yearly lenses it shouldn't be that hard either LOL

Day 25: Worst hair/wig experience?

Ponytail fell off on the company party dancefloor. This may have been photographed but we never got the photos of me on the dancefloor last year :(

Day 26: What do you wear when not 'in gal'?

Chiikawa tracksuits mostly. Like these are my most worn pieces at this point. I have the chiikawa, hachiware, and usagi one. Maybe only day I'll get momonga too? I also had a huge ball cap phase.

Day 27: Have you ever considered leaving gyaru?

No, not anytime in the future. Maybe i'll fall offline a bit community wise one day but that won't stop me.

Day 28: What do you think will/would you like to happen to gyaru in the future?

What I think is happening:

Tsuhimeagejo. Over accessorizing... the return of tans. A weird mishmash. and every bring released agejo/hime clothing this year it feels like LMAOOOOOO. I was happy with it! Not so happy with the accessorizing.

I think eventually Egg and tsuyome will take over again, which is fine by me.

What I want to happen:  I think I'd like to see more ane agejo pop up, which I think the korean gyaru comm is currently into, while the other comms not so much... maybe I just need to pay attention to more babymetalclub releases LOL! I am also awaiting the MA*RS release of older cuts of clothing... hoping more of this happens.

Day 29: Share the gal items you've bought the last 29 days.

I have a blog post of recent gets I posted pretty recently. But the recent gets that are omw to my shopping seller are a kyaba dress, a rady christmas dress, a (i won't say until it gets in my hands as its an iso of mine), and a dear my love blouse (mostly so I can wear it with my squirrel party jsk). I also ordered two lolita dresses and some matching shoes that'll come in hopefully January? So fun!

Day 30: Take & share a beautiful pic of you in gal

Me and my puppy River hehe... she's so snuggly. She looked so done in these phots LMAOO but she loves me and I love her!!

11/3 - A retrospective of the longest 11 months of my life. (Mostly in terms of gal)

Chat. I guess this one gets a bit personal at times, but in a way, my gyaru journey has tied itself to my current path. 2025 has been the craziest year of my life I think, and the year of most personal growth. This new year started with Prisila wigs on my head... and something about that made it crazy. Nothing in this is structured btw lol.

I'll start w gal stuff and then if any oomfs care... we can talk about the non gal things.

I think in general my style has changed a lot this year and will continue to. I do still love ma*rs, but I think the overhype of the ma*rs himeagejo made me want to try other looks, the inner hipster in me I fear... But I think once the gal comm moves to another big substyle... I'll be more likely to wear the ma*rs pieces more LOL! I've also been into the non clothing parts of gal more, like hair, tanning, and lenses... it's been fun! And I think overall, I'm in the phase of finding things I want to wear and not just... what "looks" gal. Ever since I realized I could like just "be" gal it's like ok let me play with my style.

I think best way to discuss changes in gal is look back at the goals I set in my first blog post and comment on them in bold:

  1. Learn Parapara dances!! I went to my first parapara panel at Katsucon this year held by the lovely 109 Degrees Gyarusa!! I had such a fun time (I... do not remember the dance though). I'd love to learn at least one, and hope to go to another parapara panel at a con if there is one! Sadly... no parapara panel this year... I also really didn't learn any new dances. I would like to do this, just gotta motivate!!
  2. Coordinate all of the pieces I have bought without buying new ones. I have treated myself a bit too much this Christmas, and I really need to actually wear all of the pieces before trying to make any new large hauls off of Mercari JP. My goal is to wear every piece at least once, and to try to re-wear as much as I can of course! This is going to probably cause a lot of lifestyle changes of when I get up and get ready, since it can take awhile. I then tripled my wardrobe size in 2025. LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO  I do really need to work on wearing pieces more. I will say some pieces I do wear to the ground (rady tracksuits, chiikawa tracksuits), but others not so much. I need to allow myself to wear them more. I think it leans on the fact a lot of pieces require the rest of me to be done up, and this past year has been hard to put all those factors together. This in general is something I'm working on. Actually thinking of dying my hair to match my LiYe pieces, it'd be a darker blonde, but I like how the color looks. Also got a sunlamp to help me get up earlier and working on motivating myself to dress up cuter. Winter is always hard... my closet is not meant for this colder weather.
  3. Go to an IRL Gal meet! I would love to meet some other gals locally. I knew of one in Boston back in October, but I was out of the country so I couldn't make it. I'm hoping that there are more organized in the future and I'd love to keep an eye out it! This has been done! I've met gal mutuals at Katsucon, but also went to a gyaru meetup at CtCon, though small... it was still fun! I also met Day there which was fun!!!
  4. Work on navigating with longer nails. This was the year of navigating heels, I'm hoping next year I can work with nails to maybe consider getting my nails done or just keeping my press ons for longer than an evening. My natural nails are pretty short so I can type with no issues, and it's not hard to get normal task done. When I've had longer nails on this year, it's been wild. Ya girl did not do this at all... I wear nails even less now. I think I'd like to try to get my nails done, and figure out how they work with bouldering. Will be consulting Caty about this...
  5. Wrap up all current DIY projects. I have two DIY outfits I have planned that I just have... sitting here! I want to work on those further to make some cute outfits I can wear. I actually need to do the opposite and not DIY anything right now as I don't really have the craft room set up at ALL LOL! I kept buying supplies and just did not DIY anything... I even bought a nice dress to try to rhinestone and I think that might just get tailored for a wedding guest dress in December lol... maybe I'll rhinestone it next year.
  6. Circle lenses at least once. I've been putting this off for ages due to just not having an updated eye prescription, and I'd rather get lenses that I can use to help me see. I'm hoping in January I can schedule an eye appointment and get it all taken care of. YES BRENNA YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually didn't do the eye appointment until much later but it was because my roommate went and got new glasses and I was like.. Ok let me do it too. Love this.
  7. DO NOT FALL FOR THE SUMMER GYARU PROPAGANDA!!!!!!! I could go into a huge ramble about how I do like restricting my substyles for the sake of consuming things. I made a large mistake of trying to do a whole summer wardrobe redo and a lot of items I ended up buying at the local thrift ended up going back during my winter cleanout. I have a lot of clothing still that works for summer. I feel like I actually didn't fall for it this year. I instead fell for the chiikawa propaganda but I am going to keep wearing those. Also I think just tanning in general helped a lot. Oh. But the floral propaganda was real... love the florals from ma*rs sm... they will be returning in spring. I think in general my closet is hitting a point where I've got clothing for like... almost every occasion... maybe a trench coat is in order... unsure.
  8. Keep this blog going! I hope to post for now once a week minimum, I may try for more depending on if I'm doing anything. December specifically is a work-heavy month so I may not have as much free time. That didn't happen. It's been a bit more frequent recently due to me going to EJ's parents place on Saturdays and I've been in the proper headspace to blog. I also sometimes blog non gal things...
And now... new goals...
  • Girl do something about the nails. Even if you just get them done at a nail salon... they're gonna be short so I can still do my life but I think it's needed.
  • Wear the clothes out more. Even for mundane things. Even if I am working from home... lets put on the cute outfit and work. I mean... even my work knows I dress like this so what is stopping me!?
  • More research into the koakuma ageha trends along with ane ageha. This is just for the sake of my gal-ness but also I think this would benefit other gals who are interested in what agejo can truly be.
  • stop buying boots. stop. buying. boots at the thriftstore... someone stop me. If anything, I need to go through my shoes.
I ended up deleting the paragraph on paragraph on paragraph on personal life, it was good to type it out but maybe not the best to overshare. I think if anything in 2025, I learned communication is the cause of a lot of issues and also a solution to many things. Also being ok if people don't like you even if you change and work on yourself... that's fine! I did a lot of moving and a lot of travel and I hope for 2026 I don't have to move again and I can feel more grounded in my apartment. I think I've already decided I'm extending this lease and my roomie feels the same LOL!
If anything I need more energy in my life arrrrgh!!!!! And I'm recovering from sickness and I'm like 75% better but this throat AAAUUUUGH!!!!

The Agejo Rabbithole - Koakuma Ageha Throughout the Years - 2008

Welcome to a long and probably will be continuing post of the Agejo rabbithole. Where I force myself to flip through as many copies of Koakuma Ageha and document things I note in the magazines. The trends of Koakuma Ageha have changed over the years, and I'm going to do my best to cover as many issues as possible. I only have so few magazines, so many of my research is thanks to internet archive, galrevo, etc.

I also don't read fluent Japanese, so a lot of my items will be around the looks, clothing, etc, that I see.

I'm going to end up doing this by year, and add months as I find them. I'll end up noting which month I start with first out of the year, as that is going to probably have the most comments, and other months will note any changes I've noticed or seasonal points. Hope that makes sense!

Locating January-July 2008 still...

August 2008 - First Issue Reviewed.

Bear with me, I'm writing this with cold hands so there's spelling errors galore.

It's still the summer season, so I'm not surprised to find a lot more clothing that fits the warmer weather. There's definitely some summery dresses, sometimes a bohemian vibe sprinkled in. Very bright colors and white color wise tops, dresses, rompers, etc. Of course, animal print makes its way in, and I already notice a lip service dress! I've recently been doing a lot more looking into lip service.

Something I notice is that many of these coordinates look very simple, but the pattern usage, small accessories, and hair styling really helps build the look together. I'm always so impressed with how big the hair can get. It makes me want to try and master the sujimori look myself with my natural hair. I also am noticing a lot of open toed heels, and they're not super platform-y.

Also I'm noticing the cohesiveness of patterns. If there's a one piece with a graphic or even a graphic tea, the accessories don't have mismatched patterns tat clash. I think the minimal accessorizing fits really good here.

Comments on some of the specific models and their fashion choices (it seems I'm flipping through a day of the week and each outfit has a specific point. ) Also if I have a name wrong you can correct me!

  • Shizuka - Amazing as always, she's the one I noticed with the lip service dress. She's so good at utilizing her hair styles and accessorizing to tie her outfits together. A lot of her "point" pieces are the shoes or accessories, which I think is very cool. I know I personally put outfits together based on my main piece, but this is very inspiriting to try other pieces.
  • Sayaka - I feel like she really gives the "still reads as a hostess but she's not working" in her fits ,especially with the one pieces. A lot of her point pieces are jewelry, which is interesting to me as I usually am drawn to her choice of dresses. Also LOVING the blue one piece here. (It's golds infinity.... of I will never find that second hand. LOL)
  • Sakurina - Versatile diva. She's pulling together a lot of different colors and vibes. I'm also realizing so far every model's "point" has been a non main piece item... very inspiring.
  • Riho - Though her outfits are not fully my favorite (the little black dress code is very cute though!) I really like her darker hair. Riho has the last "over the top pattern" in styling imo, but she'sable to pull it off well, which reminds us all maybe we don't need the crazy patterned items.
  • Nemu - Like Sayaka, still gives hostess but is off duty but you know she's a hostess. I really like her in the blue dress and with the chain one piece. I'm also starting to pick up on a trend of instead of thigh highs, sometimes they use heeled boots (... gladiator boots I think? I did not go to fashion school so I am not the best with the terms" to help not make a leg look "too long". It somehow works very well. I also really like that chain one piece... and once again... blue... LOVING blue looks.
  • Rina - These looks are so cute and refreshing! Lots of fun colors but not too too crazy i pattern mashing (aside from the piece with the minnie mouse top.) I do love when the older models have a more youthful style, it's so cute. I really love how she styled the plaid shorts, though they're multicolored, sticking with the lighter solid colors in the shirt and shoes help bring it all together. It's so cute!
  • Sayo - More bright colors like Rina, but I feel like she's coordinated them in more with my taste. More gladiator heels. I really like the ANAP USA top, and how it's styled very simply. I think this is the trend overall where models take a more busy piece and accessorize simply to not be too-too much here.
  • Rin - Insert my extreme excitement for Rin here!!!!!!! Rin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 I personally feel like Rin is able to pull off many different styles, but as she is younger in this volume (only 20!) she's definitely wearing the cuter younger styles. Including a REALLY cute MA*RS dress that I honestly should get myself now that I've seen her wear it (LOL.....). Her vibes are very girly, like very early stereotypical pinterest agejo, but also has some more bohemian vibes at times, as well as just more simple... cutesy... god she can do EVERYTHING. I'm also noticing the darker eyes which def give a doll-ier vibe, which I know she was well loved for her dolly look.

I force you all to look at her... Diva for real. It's such a different look from her Sobre modeling photos, but I also just really admire how she's transformed in her beauty over the years. Highly recommend you check out the video on this listing and appreciate her.  Also just realized we are the same height... crazy. Ok. Back to model comments.

  • Clare(?) / Kurea - Her style is simple, and I feel like this is a very good way to do more casual looks while keeping the.... pinterest agejo style (I've been calling the stereo typical looks this.). Her hair color is also very cute and the cut is also very cute. I also think her longer kyaba dress (aside from the almost open back) is like something I might be able to get away with in the office. Maybe. Risky.
  • Keiko - This is like... quintessentially hime gal. This is tuning. Gorgeous. No notes from me really. I do really like Jesus Diamante, and that type of Hime Gal is like... the older sister of the Ma*RS Hime gal if that makes sense. Also speaking of modern day gaijin gals I think pull this off... Marley (pinkhimegal on insta) is like very modern day Jesus Diamante Hime gal. If you want some good modern day references, Marley is so stunning and also SO sweet!!
  • Mika - My thoughts are very similar to Sayo's comments above. I do think an open toe shoe with the jeans having the scrunch at the bottom is not my favorite look. It makes the legs look shorter than they usually are.
  • Maria - I feel like these looks though similar to other gals, are refreshing to see. I wish I could put the correct words to them, but it really feels like she knows what she is going. I feel like the black/red/white colorway is really cool, and is usually associated with Rokku gyaru, but this still feels like... agejo, if that makes sense. I love the styling with the white and black striped onepiece with the glitter vest.
  • Nanako - I think maybe this just isn't my personal style, but she is very cute! I think though she's going for a more casual cute style, it's not really appealing to me. Some of the styling of hair accessories feels like it's a last minute thought and it's not super cohesive, but I fear my bias may be also just... I don't vibe with these looks. It is noticed she is aligned with La Pafait, and I personally have been slowly.. un-vibing? with the brand.
  • Ako and Nami - This is similar to the styling of Rina, with the bright and refreshing colors. It feels very summery resort vibes for their outfits. For a moment I thought this was the twins but realized the ages were not very twin ages... so unsure of context right now why they're together.
So overall, I feel like you either got more of the older sister vibe vs the younger brighter styling vibes. Of course I love Rin, but I really vibe with Shizuka, Maria, and Sayaka's looks. I am 27 and have been leaning towards the "I would like to look a little bit older" look so that's probably why. Overall, it felt like the accessorizing felt a lore more simple.

Oh god even more fashion, but it seems like "time of day" items? So many things going on. I'll just note any new thins I've noticed as I flip through. We're on page 28 out of 184... oh my god LOL
  • Shoulders: are out! Which makes sense. I know I personally am trying to get more comfortable with my shoulders being out, and it seems like a lot of gals in the models are doing it. I think because I usually have covers on my legs I feel like I should be covering up my arms to proportion-ize the look (also it's cold lol). Though, these gals also have their legs out a lot too. It's November here so it's extremely cold, so I'll probably hold off for now, but maybe something to experiment in the summer.
  • I also think a LOT of these gals use invisible bras for their looks. where are the bra straps?! How do you all hide those? I've tried the invisible bra before and just couldn't get it to work... but maybe I'll have to try more in the future (or maybe it's just... they're too big even though I don't think they are?? I am a C cup which in American standards NEVER SEEMED THAT BIG?????? But also I am not a model so it's ok if y'all see 'em I guess. LOL.
  • Seeing lolita brands in here is ... in a way not surprisingly for Hime, but I'm curious if they still followed lolita guidelines in lolita branded items. Clare/Kurea I can't super tell if she has a petticoat inher picture... but also I can't see the full dress to tell. I think the princessy look really suits her tho!! Esp with the short hair.
  • This could be either just... the magazine photos or the trends, but the agejo models definitely seem tanner, which makes me happy as I have been trying to keep up the tan myself. Having a tan makes pastel colors pop in such a nice way. It's so cute!
  • I'm also trying to decipher how blonde these gals actually are. This links to my confusion of the Prisila wig photos are LiYe looks more yellow in the magazine and stock photos than it does in real life. I also suffer from blonde blindness where a true blonde to me is a REALLY light blonde. I think if anything, these gals are doing warmer colors of blonde which looks super good. I love a nice golden blonde, even if it's seen as "brassy".
Located a dazzy store add, these dresses are cheap and you can definitely tell. But I think for newer hostesses it probably made sense there were cheaper options.

Oh my goodness... so much fashion. These are the street snaps. Same comments as above, I'm also noticing not too much animal print, but if there is any, zebra is more popular. Most people try to do "tsuhimeagejo" with leopard print, but I think we need to bring back more zebra print for real...

Now we're into the Kyaba dresses, what were the girls actually wearing to work. I really enjoy the long gowns, and the bright colors. Sometimes a fun pattern too. Compared to modern day kyabajo dresses, I feel like these (along with the styling of the hair) made the looks so much more fun and unique! Why did it have to get toned down... I don't know....

And suddenly! A Prisila Wig Ad! I think a lot of gals definitely didn't use prisilas like most prisila gals do today (where we tend to cover the head). I think the photography made the wig pieces match their hair much better than it used to be. I've considering dying my hair the color of LiYe to try and do more partial items, since TCM is nonexistent now LOL

And Now! The Makeup tutorials! I'm going to do some general comments in bullet points on things I've noticed.
  • I notice some gals don't do their top liner on their full like... lid line? Like they don't always take it to the inner corer. This might be fun for my to play with, because it definitely gives a bigger eye effect. there's also some eyelid tape tutorials, which doesn't apply to me, but makes sense. I do also see some gals do the inner corner, it gives them a more elongated eye effect, more sultry.
  • The eyeshadow itself is pretty simple, which is good for beginners as you only really need to have a warm shade of a pink/orange/brown and a nice shimmer shade for highlighting.
  • Droops are much different in the gal make here compared to what a lot of gaijin gals do. I know galrevo actually posted on reddit with some other mag examples (ane ageha) For Agejo, I think it makes more sense to keep it simple.
  • Also not every gal is doing an under eye highlight (aegyosal), and if there is an under eye highlights, the eye fat itself isn't super defined.
  • The lashes are there but also not suuuper drastic. Make has always been much more simple but still is there, and its still noticeable. I think for these looks you can also get away without using bottom lashes and using mascara if your droop isn't too big and you have longer bottom lashes. Sayaka also has a lash less look where she has long enough top lashes she can get away with it.
  • Blush is so light it almost feels nonexistent. If there is a blush, most of it seems to be a very light pink or peachy/orange that's almost non noticeable in application. I'm wondering if part of this is also photo editing. Lip color is also very light, not concealer lips, but almost like... a tinge of pink or peach.
  • There's also a section on nose contouring. These gals are much softer on the nose contour, it's still apparent, but almost like its natural. there's also no apparent nose stripe that other styles would have.
    • I have a pretty defined nose, but I always note I need to contour it after applying foundation, as the shadows just aren't as prominent. I think no matter the nose, contouring helps.
    • I know a lot of people say these looks aren't gyaru enough... but I feel like they are. They're definitely much different than current day koakuma ageha make, and even looking at the models in these magainzes today (Sakurina, Shizuka, Rin), this makeup really does read much gyaru to me compared to their current day makeup. I think the tan and hair color also ends up tying it all together as... oh this is not just a regular gal.

Now looking at a few snaps of girls on the job, which has the older dress style and the big hair... ah it's cute... I would give them my money haha.

It's so interesting to see the old sugar and jewels adds, as the dresses just aren't the same these days LOL...
Also lenses exist already! So far I've realized I've seen at least two. They all have that limbal ring, and I always notice they reply on the dark eye color. This is always a challenge as I have blue eyes so lenses always end up looking different on me.  There's been no lenses section yet, but I've def noticed the models wearing them. I feel like when I was in 2008 people would think of the halloween lenses but I never really knew of them being a fashion trend over here (they still really aren't in trends here... but it's slowly happening I think with the push of new daily lens brands).

Now, I've encountered the hair! Overall, a lot of the hair is big, a lot of curls, and a lot of recommendations on products. I think Japanese hair products are much different than in the United States. I'm curious if they also had the hairspray that eventually got banned her because of the o-zone. I would love to find if anyone in the United States had hair styles like these, as it's be fun to try and get done at a salon. Could I also do this myself one day? Yes. But not today. Maybe a 2026/2027 goal.

And AHH More street snaps! the first page definitely gives a more cutesy vibe, I'm not the greatest with knowledge on other sub styles, but these definitely lean more himekaji, a little amekaji, and some bohemian vibes. But it seems just a small section here. I do enjoy how they're  grouped together.

And then, some bath techniques? Along with loungewear they wear. I guess this is good if you need some bath techniques! I don't take baths too often. Onetime doing a deep dive on Rin she' recommended a half bath (where you don't put your upper half under the water). I do this once in awhile with a bath bomb when I want to relax. I've definitely noticed it can give me quite a sweat LOL.

Then, a small feature on Clare! I'll be honest, I could not pick up from translation if this was a normal feature, or a graduation feature. I think these are cute to get an idea of the life of one of the models! I hope to find a Rin one during my search...

And then a section on things various models bought recently, with receipts LOL. Glad to know we can understand these gals spending habits... I know if I had a spot in here it'd be "Spent 160 dollars at miniso on Chiikawa merch." LOL.

Then, a story on gals who deicded to not move to Tokyo for work an work in Yokohama. I have to say, I really like google translate's image feature. I can just drag a page to briefly read it. It's not a lot on fashion, but I think what I really like about Koakuma Ageha is how not only do we see how the models style themselves, but how they live their lives. Highly recommend if you have a computer to utilize this feature, it's easy to drag the page over and drop it into google translate these days! Funny thouhg, I've looked up travel distances between Yokohama and Tokyo and it seems it's about an hour away. I used to work in Boston while living in Providence, the commute can definitely be exhausting, so I get why they wouldn't commit to that.

Along with that, a small feature on single moms! I love this. I've noticed in the Japanese gyaru space that there do tend to be a lot of single moments, and I really admire how they can do all that they do while taking care of kids!

And now... the place I used to flip to first when I got my magazines, the Ageha Store! I am sad that a lot of these brands are just... so difficult to find these days. I think a lot of them have just disappeared or disintegrated, but also they're not the brands gals are ogling over these days, so people don't super try to look. I think if there's a specific silhouette or patter, you could utilize these peices and they were on the cheaper end at times. Of course... the quality is probably not as great, maybe putting these on the level of forever 21? I'll note some brand names I see a lot here:
  • Strip Cabaret
    • This I've noted a small amount of lists pop up more often. Feels similar to golds infinity pieces at times. But also has pieces that are more in that red/black/white floral print range too but I assume that's in later years
  • Pink Princess
    • This is not one I recall seeing. Some pieces Rin is wearing seems closer to Jesus Diamante, but then also some stray away from it.
  • Maev
    • Not a lot of items, Sakurina was wearing them which fits more of her style.
  • Fairy Teary - Accesssorys
  • Salus - Shoes
  • Zugu - Shoes
  • Release
    • Cute Kyaba dresses, in the 70-100 dollar range. they don't scream like... super exciting to me.
  • Verge Verge
    • This is. Expensive. I mean. I guess there were some brands that it happens with.
  • AJR
    • More ex... wait this might be Angel R. This would make sence if this is aonther name for Angel R. If it's not and AJR is a different Kyaba Dress
  • Prisila
    • Love Prisila Wigs, it's a staple. You can actually get some these pieces still today off of their website! Wahoo! They are pricey. I've noticed the prices today are a biiiiit cheaper. I think Rin is wearing the J-806 which on the magazine retails 9,975 yen, but today it's only 7,920 yen. Interesting.
  • Malibu
    • Now this intrigued me. I haven't really heard of Malibu wigs before, I've only heard of Prisila. Now I did immediately go to their website and it seems though active, their wigs for hostesses are no longer sold.
And with that, it then turns into the pages of ads or lenses, body slimming, teeth fixing...etc etc... I do enjoy they put this at the end so I know I'm basically all done with the magazine at this point. There's also some scoop on models (aka fun little things they have going on), and then the final part is readers can enter for some free items? Very interesting. But I am alas... a few years late.

And with that... August is done! The vibe is much different from my personal copies of 2011, but a lot of cute items!

September 2008

You know... the Magic Monroe dresses are so cute... but I can never find any... It's a shame.

It starts with cosmetics rankings, and I'm noticing that the current lash choice feels like there are clusters, but not like... super thick manhua or triangle clusters, but it's not the full wispy look.

Also I forget gel liner exists... I always stick to liquid liners myself. I also find it interesting how simple the eyeshadow pallets are. It's really easy for gals to just get one basic palette and make it work. Also lots of MAC mentions, which is funny as I feel like I don't hear about it too much here these days. though, for a lot of makeup, I don't really think the brand matters these days.

As I noted in August, the lipsticks are very nude tones, and if there's any pink aspects, it comes from the choice of gloss.

Then the ranking turns into skincare and also some nutrition aspects. I tend to personally ignore these as health is very specific to people and I'd rather listen to a doctor, or find what works for me on my own LOL. Though I didn't realize a cocktail drip was a thing... what ????? I think for my sanity. I will not look further into it.

In the ranking of things that sold, I was not surprised to see some luxury items pop in ,as I feel like that's just known in the kyabajo space is that there are going to be luxury aspects. I feel like it's more apparent today though. I also found it interesting that one of the dresses that Shizuka wore in the August edition made it on the list! (The lipservice card dress... mayhaps I'll look aorund and see if i can pick one up for a mohegan trip next month lol...) Makes you realize that these models do have influence!

Also I'm noticing a little bit of MA*RS here and there, but I feel like I see Lip Service mentioned a bit more these days lol.

There's a story on dealing with love issues and augh.... it helps remind me that we are all going though it. I also noted Riho's issues with falling in love with customers and how her work is pseudoromance, and issues can come out of it. It's interesting.

Fashion wise, lots more black, and capris are slowly coming. I even saw Rin in some thigh high socks! I know here in the United States, the weather is still quite similar to August, so I wasn't expecing too much change of fashion!

In terms of the Ageha Shop , Mentions of Swallowtail is coming through. If I remember ,they also had some kyabajo dress ads in the 2011 items I've looked at. Very much vibing more with Pink Princess.

Compared to August, not much changes.

October 2008 -

Hair wise? Not many changes. It's as big as ever.

Now... October brings the boots... oh the boots... Knee high and thigh high. Fur stoles and scarves are also coming into place which makes sense. Rin has also changed up her style for a 7 days of outfits! It's still Rin, but she's bringing out more darker colors and adding in boots and tights as it gets colder. But still very much Rin. The right most look also feels more simpler in makeup and less dolly style, but still good.

Overall, the darker colors are coming into play and the brighter summer colors are being retired for now. In Keiko's case, she's bringing out the cute Jesus Diamante coat which is super cute. Nanako's styling is also much cuter and I feel works better for the fall/wintery vibes.

There's a section on the models talking about various facial exercises and body exercises they do to help keep their image. I guess if it works for them I see why they'd share it :)

I think in general, a lot of the monthly changes will be slight between models, especially in their makeup. I feel like it depends on their personal vibe and what type of look is trending. It's also october here, so there's a few Halloween items here and there.

For the Ageha shop; nothing too much.

November 2008 -  Coming... eventually

The more I look at Rin the more I'm like "she is just doing whatever she wants with her makeup." I feel like she definitely loves the big dolly look for sure, but like in the image above, it felt more toned down, and now in a make tutorial she's going for a heavier eye make! It's cute! I'm also noting in general it seems the tans are slightly fading, which I mean, it is winter, maybe it's not as much of a priority / people aren't going out in the sun as much.

We've also got a section talking about the luxury goods, prada, chanel, cartier, louis vuitton. I know for me I really don't care of these but it makes sense they're mentioned.

I also really liked the style differences between Momoeri and Riho, as each model has their own vibe and it's just like... man... it's so cute to see how they handle things! The rounds were casual, girly, folk(?)... Feromin?? Feminine??? and in Kyaba Dresses. I think Riho has more of a ... personal vibe (colors, siohoeyyes) she goes for, while Momoeri is a bit more diverse. But, both are very cute!

then, we have Sayaka, Sakurina, and Momoeri(I believe?) sharing different looks from a rock, swwet, and sexy side! Which honestly I feel like is a great way to further drill down agejo, you have sexy agejo, sweet agejo, rock agejo... and ofc you can label them various substyle names.... but it's still... so complex... LOL.

There's also some cute girls talk themed shoot. Tough it's short, I love cute little themed shoots and seeing how the models are styles. I love the cute fluffy pigtails!!

With the fashion, coats and boots are definitely in now since it's colder. I also love the look of a short coat with a minishirt and boots! I'm noticing more MA*RS comin in, but it's the plaids, the houndstooth, none of the various prints. Hats are also in! With hair poofing outwards to still show that big hair.

I really like this coat since I also own coats with similar closures (alba rosa coats), but this fit is much different than mine. I must now run away from this page before I try to buy a bunch of new coats.

The magazine then gets into some stores from the age-mos, and it's always good to read, and then whoa!!! Sayaka's graduation!! It's fun to see how she's developed during her time modeling for the magazine, and even in the small bits and pieces I've seen her modeling for other magazines! I'd say "wish you the best!" but this is years ago and as far as I am aware she still is still doing wellLOL!

Onto lashes! I definitely keel like the lashes are still in the wispier side. I also note a lot of lashes are longer in the middle vs the outer corner. I actually am considering playing around with some lashes like this now... I also have no idea how these gals get decent lower lashes. I was trying to buy some in a mercari haul and it was like... oddly impossible. I also realized I am understanding Japanese juuust a little to understand if a lash is a bottom lash or not when I read diamond lash packaging though! LOL

Also interesting that there's a ranking on lower lash placement. It seems its popular to put the lash distance wise from the inner corner. the top ranking is 5cm away. I think this makes sense with how little of a droop there is in most of these makeup looks.

Hair tutorials are showing a lot of looks that utilize curlers and I'm really considering working more with Sujimori. I know in later issues you start seeing a lot more prisila wigs, but I do note that it's been commented that the western gals of today like a full helmet head of prisilas. I know I'm personally considering dying my hair as close to LiYe as possible as I want to try and utilize the true potential of the half wig!

For the Ageha Shop - I've noticed Allure coming in, except this time the R is in the right position. In later productions I noticed the brand name changed. I've always been trying to see if ANYTHING of that brand will ever show up. Clumzy is also a new brand I'm noticing. Lots more Maev and Strip Cabaret, and VergeVerge is gone (I mean... it was much more expensive compared to the other items listed here). I haven't noted pricing before, but if back in the day 100 yen = 1 usd, most of these main pieces were in the 50-70 USD range. Tje Kyaba dresses are the higher ones, with some being tup to 150 USD, but then also some in the 50-60 USD range too. Still pretty sure AJR = AngelR. If you wanted boots, Salus and carrys were the way to go.

Also in my flipping of the ads, it's interesting to see brands that are just not talked about... non existent... maybe the brands didn't last that long or the dresses disintegrated.

To finish this off, after reading August - November I kept looking at Shizuka specifically and being like "It feels like she's doing a younger version of course but something is really making her look different." I ended pulled up more recent photos and thought she looked more similar to her 2010s look in 2025 than in 2008. I realized it is the brows. A lot of the models are doing more arched brows, very angular. Later issues and more popular today, the agejos start flattening their brows which gives a different effect. It makes me realize once again how important brows are.

December 2008 -

Great, lost all my work trying to upload a picture of Rin! LMAO... I wrote "she can do no wrong" and she broke my blog. Let me rewrite what I was thinking:

1) Cover is very cutesy hime vibes

2) Lots of body talk for the first like. 20 pages

3) I realized at this point Sayaka did not graduate as a model but a kyabajo. Also her roomwear outfit made me feel a bit more gal in my random t-shirt and sweats LOL

4) I'm figuring out there's 3 substyles of Agejo/Ageha Kei, "Sexy Agejo", "Cute Agejo", and "Rock Agejo". BEFORE YOU TELL ME HIME AND ROKKU EXIST... I think yes they do but its not fully the same. This is why labels are hard.

Sayaka, Riho, and Shizuka give off the sexy vibes in their 7 day outfit series, Sakurina gives a rock vibe (as she is typically a rokku reference).

Rin's looks are very cute this time around. I now attempt to put the images in for you all to see without breaking the blog:

I don't think people would call these "hime", but they still fall under that "cute agejo" vibe you feel? It's not even like Himekaji... it's just cute agejo. If anything, the himegyaru looks fall under the "cute agejo" but not all "cute agejo" would be deemed as himegyaru. Does this make sense?

And this is so funny because the next page is FULL of MA*RS items thanks to Momoeri. However, she's wearing a lot of the older ma*rs pieces and is styling them to work for the "sexy agejo". I actually have scans of the 2008 Spring/Summer Look and some of these items def come from there. I think Clare has had looks that almost resemble this, and I've seen girls wearing some of the older ma*rs items in my flip throughs, but we are still nowhere near the Himena era of ma*rs yet. I am so excited to find the first magazine she shows up and see her develop. Also the DelilaH dress.... a NEED what the hell.

This is where I pause as between the first few magazines I've flipped through and this one, I've come to realize that though some models may have been popular, only some have been able to truuuly influence the gaijin gals. I think Himena has done a wonderful job doing so. I know there's a few other big names who also have and maybe I'll recognize them in my flip throughs, but it's interesting how some gals are HUGE in Japan but like... not as much of an influence in the agejo space I fear...

Wow the paragraph where I said Clare has done some looks similar to momoeri's spread and now it feels... like she's changed a bit! I actually really like her looks, though it's colder, she still has a lot of white and lighter colors in her coords, and if there's patterns, white is still prominent. Her longer hair also really suits her too!

A short spread of valentines high, which includes luggage... I never really think about luggage for gal, but I do recall in girls life sakurina carring a suitcase around. It might be more important to the kyabajo lifestyle than I realize!

Oh wow. Golds Infinity Brand Release.... even in my page translation it said it was hard to get omg... yeah it's still like that LOL! I'm not surprised the one pieces seemed to retail in the (100 yen to 1 usd ration) 50-70 dollar range, I feel like a lot of people think brands were cheaper than they were.

And as it is the December issue , the trend is coats, boots, and hats. The girlies love hats. there's also some cards and fur stoles too. A lot of black and white. And you also get the addin of Keiko and Nanako going for the pure himegyaru look. I am one again enjoying more of Nanako's codes. I also enjoy this section shows what each gal is wearing under the goat and showing they also aren't wearing a random shirt that doesn't match LOL!

Then an exciting issue of "what is the most ordered hair style at salons in the past 3 years! It seems like it's grouped by hair salon, so I'll bullet some commentary and mention salons where important. I will say each salon gives pointers on how each hair style is created, which is great!
  • e-studio (the first e-studio listed at least, the red one) had a straight hairs bob with a little big of volume for number 2, which was kind of shocking, but the more I thought about it, I guess if you have short hair, you only can do so much.
  • there is definitely a love for the side part, and that gives it a lot of volume, though the rest of the hair may differ, they love that poof.
  • I will say, the middle part looks are my favorite, how do they get the hair to look so effortless when you know there is a lot of effort. Wow.

  • It seems like having straight across bands is not as common, most bangs are either long or swept to the side, which I know I rely on my bangs a LOT lol. Mayhaps I must look into this more.

And after hair, a whole section on knee high socks... which is weird as I don't see them a whole lot. Curious if this means we'll start seeing these MUCN more often. Once in awhile I see a full tight, but usually the gals have been keeping the legs bare or wearing boots!

And then, doing some reading as I type here, makeup changes for some of the models! I think it's always interesting to see how models have changed their makeup techniques for a different look. This went from overusing mascara, to changing from a liquid liner to a pencil liner, utilizing fake lashes, and facial contouring.  Momoeri seems to e the only one who had a "change over the issues" of what she had previously done, I hope to find more of these in later issues! It's fun to see what models do to enhance their look!

I flip through the article on sibling as I'm like this is cute but I'm moreso on fashiontrends... There was a small section on rooms which just makes me realize I need to really get into the idea of like... decorating my room more LOL!

and now something has caught my eye... new models?! How exciting! They only have one look each ,but I'm interested in them all.
  • Airu is really pretty, she definitely gives me "sexy agejo" vibes.
  • Makoto is very cute, I feel like she almost gives more kurogyaru in her look, which excites me for her looks in the future!
  • Erika is really pretty... no false eyelashes... very interested to see how her makeup looks evolve! She is also on the older end which makes me happy :) This loos feels like it's going for a cuter look, but she still reads more sexy agejo to me.
  • Ramu(sp?) Is a good model for the hime gals, quintessential himegal for sure.
This makes me wonder... when do satomin and himena show up... I'll be waiting for those divas...

Got to the Ageha Shop page, and the color scheme is very black white and red. The R "Allure" is now flipped!"

And with that. That's December! I'll be keeping an eyeout now in 2009 for more knee high socks LOL!
